Tips on making your balcony safe for young children and pets

You get horrified upon hearing the news that a child was fallen out from a balcony. You get affected about it especially when you also have the same in your house.  Balcony safety is necessary to prevent this incident. A bad thought then comes and rushing in your mind that your kid might experience the same. You have your pets and kids with you in your house and you think about their protection.  A safe balcony will give you the security for your kids and pets.

Having a veranda in your house lets you breathe the fresh air every time you wake up in the morning, relaxing your jittery nerves as the sunshine softly warms your wholeness. That’s a good thing about it but it didn’t come on your mind the risk of a balcony could bring in your pets most especially on your kids without a balcony safety. There are so many scenarios that are possible to happen. And worst, it may risk your child’s life.

Children, particularly with the age of 1 up to 4 years old are explorative. They love to climb to anything beyond their reach. They must enjoy moments of playing in a safe balcony. On a child’s mind, they want to do everything they want without restrictions or they may have tantrums. As an adult, all you have to do is to supervise their movements to keep them away from harm.  Make your balcony safety from children. Have your balcony a high window unreachable for your child. Keep off some chairs or furniture’s accessible to your kid. They can use it to climb to a higher ground which is quite dangerous for they might fall afterwards. Don’t let them play without an adult supervision or you at their side.

Lock unoccupied rooms. Children might open those doors and you were left unaware that they are already inside climbing somewhere else. We cannot underestimate the child’s capabilities. For your child’s sake, install some safety devices on your balconies to avoid future accident. You will never know what might happen every day. Try to educate your child about balcony safety and the dangers of falling from a balcony by instilling on their mind the possible outcome of playing beside it. This will make them aware of the possible outcome and they will be responsible for themselves.

If you are a pet lover, the emotional connection that you have with your pet is quite the same with what you have with your kid or to any person close to you. So you feel an equal concern to have a safe balcony for your kids as well as to your pet. But the behaviors of pets are different from a kid. They have more active movement. You can use a pet stroller. This will make your pet stay in one place but still can stroll freely. This will make you at ease that your beloved animal is safe like your kid. Your balcony safety is an advantage for both of them.
